At the start of the year I decided to set myself a creative challenge of doing a floral alphabet letter per week, since I loved doing them so much. It gave me a creative focus whilst I am on ‘maternity leave’ from the shop which I have loved. I thought I would share my progress on here every so often, hence sketchbook Saturday!
As you can see I’ve actually only managed 4 so far this year- between having a small baby, toddler and preschooler my windows of time to create have got smaller and smaller! It takes a fair bit of time and concentration to complete these lovely letters. Although I’m a bit behind, I have loved doing them and intend to keep going, hopefully I will have chance this weekend to do another. I have some fun plans once I’ve completed the whole alphabet so watch this space.
First I did an ‘L’ for a friend’s new baby, and then ‘A’ for Amelia. I chose marigolds as the flower since they are the flower of October, the month she was born. The colour also reminds me of the stunning colours of the turning leaves the week after she was born. That one is now framed and I’m going to put that near her bed once she’s in her own/ the littles’ room. I chose to do a pink ‘P’, inspired by my biggest lady who loves all things pink- and then this gorgeous colourful bouquet for ‘M’.
I’m usually taking inspiration from real life floral displays or bouquets- you can follow my flora and fauna board over on Instagram for some floral beauties and see if you can spot the inspiring arrangements I have used! Do you have any letters/ flowers/ colours that you would put together? I’m always up for suggestions, especially since I have another 20 letters to go..!
