As you may already know, just over two weeks ago we met our second lovely daughter, our third baby, Amelia. She was born on her due date, 27th October, not a moment too soon, and was not only the most punctual baby of the three of them but the lightest, at 7lb 1oz. After a false alarm and nearly three days of Braxton Hicks contractions I was so mentally and physically ready for our third baby to be here!
She was born 8.41am at home, which was the plan largely so we would definitely have a birth pool, having had the other two in the water as well. We are so grateful to God for our healthy baby, an easy delivery and that we could have her at home as planned. As ever he was so present with us. It was nice being in our own environment and not have to stay alone overnight in hospital either, as well as many other things. I might share more about home birthing at a later date!
She is lovely, and we are enjoying some time together as a family whilst Josh is on paternity leave. The first week we filled swiftly with grandparents, hospital appointments (routine and jaundice, which is actually not an issue!) and Josh being on night shifts. Amelia is now 7lb 10oz so is doing really well. Her darker hair is surprising lots of people- Phoebe was born ginger and Simeon fair- but her eyes look darker too so maybe she will be taking after Daddy this time and not have my blue eyes!
I feel much more normal much faster than after my previous deliveries, physically and mentally which is obviously great with so many other small people! Tiredness is starting to set in a little more now so I am trying to be mindful of that and take naps when I can even when there are other things I would love to be doing, and feel like I could do.
Phoebe and Simeon both find their little sister fascinating. Phoebe has loved holding her and the first few days was enraptured by her ‘tiny little fingers’ and ‘tiny little hands’. Simeon loved coming to look at her and since about a week in has been asking to hold her. He examines Amelia’s eyes, nose, ears, hair and points to his own. It’s so sweet seeing his proud smile when he has her on his lap. In Phoebe’s words : ‘I love her so much’. I think we all do.
