Podcasts are one of my favourite things, and since a few people have asked for recommendations I thought I would share some here. If you don’t already know (which I didn’t until I got my iPhone!), podcasts are fun things to listen to- and you can most easily do so through the podcast app on a smartphone although you can also use a browser if you go direct to the podcast site. From crime series to BBC radio catch up podcasts, you can find podcasts of pretty much any genre, but I mostly listen to interview style ones about motherhood, faith, business and books! It’s such a fun way to use my mind at the same time as folding laundry, cooking, pushing the pram or something else that uses my hands but not a lot of brain power.
So to start things off- here are my favourite podcasts to do with motherhood. Some of them are faith related or have an element of that but have all been really encouraging to me as I mother.
The Coffee + Crumbs podcast is a fun place where the podcast hosts chat through different things, have a laugh and share experiences of motherhood. It’s on a break between seasons at the moment but there are some good ones in the archives to catch up on if you’re new to it.
The God Centred Mom is the first podcast I ever listened to- and Heather has interviewed so many wonderful guests about so many elements of mothering and faith and generally clinging to God in motherhood where otherwise we would be left lacking. I have personally had my faith so much encouraged and built up just by listening to these conversations on my phone. The well lopsided series Heather recently did was a great exploration of the spirit, soul and body that’s worth listening to whether you’re a mother or not.
Risen Motherhood is an amazing podcast run by two sister in laws in the US, where they discuss an element of motherhood and relate it directly to the gospel. The emphasis of this is mothering in light of faith and the truth of Christ- not in practical how-tos but in how our mentality towards our motherhood and the opportunity it is is so important.
At home with Sally is Sally Clarkson’s podcast. I’ve only heard a few episodes but Sally’s books that I have read have been great and I’m sure her podcast are also encouraging.
Read- Aloud revival is mostly about the value of reading books aloud with your children- so it crosses both the books and mothering boundaries as far as podcasts go. I don’t listen to every single episode but it’s worth listening to a few episodes at least for some encouragement in that area and the value of connecting as a family through books and story.
So if you’ve not heard podcasts before or you want some new ideas relating to motherhood hopefully that’s given a few ideas. You can go directly to iTunes or the podcast app (on iPhones) to listen to them as well as using the links above. I love subscribing to my favourites and listening whilst doing something otherwise boring!
