If you didn’t already know, I’m painting a series of floral alphabet letters this year (my rough goal was one a week but there’s lots of grace over here since this is meant to be fun, and not a pressured thing!) I’m making my way pretty slowly through them still, and I’ve- I’ve made it through another fiveĀ letters which gives me a total of 12/26 finished. I actually did two days in a row but unfortunately lost my streak pretty quickly!
It’s nice to have a longer term project, and I’m really enjoying exploring painting different flowers and choosing colour schemes and placements and mixing colours with my watercolour paints. I think I would love to have just a few weeks to really focus and finish the whole lot off, but I know that it’s about the process (which I love!) and that I will be sad when they’re all done. Each letter reminds me of what I was thinking about, listening to or talking about at the time I was painting it, and I love that there are these stories embedded within each one.
I really, really loved doing the sunflowers particularly out of these – and quite a few of these have been painted with specific people in mind which just adds another layer of loveliness. I do each letter by hand, I’m not tracing from print outs or fonts or anything, and it’s an extra challenge but I know that they’re going to be completely unique as an alphabet. Let’s see how long it takes me to do the next few!
