It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve just written on here, just because. There are lots of reasons for that- and lots of fullness of life going on in between the internet documentation of life! This year has flown by so so fast- I’m sure it wasn’t so long ago that I was meandering the roads of our village capturing the Spring blossom with a little baby and a little boy. Phoebe is nearing her end of her first year of school, which honestly still pulls me in all different directions, just to think about. Simeon is three now, getting bigger and learning more whilst maintaining that cheeky grin. Amelia is 19 months which is just incredible- I can believe that she’s one, but I’m not ready for her to be closer to 2 years old! Days are long, or short, chaotic or full of places to go and things to do. We’ve had a half term holiday with family and friends and little adventures and a bit more sleep (thankfully).
Last week Josh had his last shift working with the underground full time and he now begins a new chapter of work (continuing as a railway engineer). In some ways it’s a leap of faith and full of unknowns but God made it so clear to us and that this was his timing and his plan after months of wondering when to make the change. There will definitely be adjustments after over 18 months of permanent nights! We had a day in London recently when I got the privilege of meeting some more of the Cheerfully Given sellers in the flesh for some photography, and had a chance to catch up with a good friend from university once the kids had been to the museums.
Whilst time seems to keep spinning on I’m also still really aware of wanting to be present where I am, whether that’s washing up or playing or just listening to the sounds around. Motherhood is this ever shifting, ever changing role and requires me to adapt so often. As soon as you think you’re in a good routine, something changes, someone grows, you hit a challenge or someone stops napping and you have to change again. I’m learning- always and forever learning- to be flexible, to grow with them, to keep my expectations open but eyes open to see the joys. Lately in my child-free hours on Mondays (Amelia now has been going to nursery one a week for a few weeks) I’ve been doing lots of writing about that and preparing for something exciting for mamas which you can see some sneaks of over here on instagram, or here on Facebook.
In between getting that website and writing ready, I’ve been weaving away at bedtime and getting things ready for demonstrating at the Open Gardens locally. I’m hoping to have a new and long overdue collection (with some fairytale wall hangings, and the bookcover prints you might have seen on instagram) up in the shop in June, so stay tuned for that date and to see what’s in it! Phoebe and I are finally entering the stage of the chapter books since the last week or so we have been reading through the Wizard of Oz. Her next request is the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and I have to say I’m so glad I didn’t push her into reading them sooner. It just happened organically (or as organically as it can when your children won’t sleep at the grandparents and the book happens to be on the bedside table in their room). It’s definitely providing plenty of inspiration and reminding me again of my love of books in this stage!
The sky is deepening through a chalky blue as the gold hints bounce off the rooftops and the last few chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird are calling my name.
